Three Options for Compressing Pictures

The Compress Pictures dialog box displays three options to choose when you compress photos in PowerPoint.

  1. Apply the compression to selected pictures only or to all pictures in the presentation.
    • Note - If this PowerPoint presentation was made using the photo album feature of PowerPoint, the only option available is to compress all pictures.

  2. Resolution
    • If the presentation is meant to be used on the Web or to be emailed, then select the option Web/Screen, which will compress the photo to 96 dpi (dots per inch).

    • If these photos will be printed, you will want to choose the option Print, which will compress the photos to 200 dpi. This will produce a much finer photo for printing.

    • Select the option No Change if you are happy with the current resolution of the photo.

  3. In the Options section
    • Select Compress pictures

    • If you have cropped the pictures using the cropping tool on the Picture toolbar, select the option to delete cropped areas of pictures. Otherwise, the cropped areas are just hidden from view, but still present and therefore, making your picture file size larger than it needs to be.
