Get help to correct errors in your PowerPoint 2007 or other Microsoft Office program files by running Microsoft Office 2007 Diagnostics.

Immediate corrections are made for some errors when you run the diagnostic tests. The program will also give information on possible problems with your computer’s memory and hard drive, and this information can be used to fix problems found on these devices.

The tests are:
  • Setup Diagnostic - checks for corrupt files and registry settings related to Office.

  • Disk Diagnostic - checks for errors on your computer's hard drive.

  • Memory Diagnostic - checks for errors in your computer's RAM memory.

  • Update Diagnostic - checks for installed updates for Microsoft Office.

  • Compatibility Diagnostic - checks for conflicting versions of Microsoft Office Outlook.

  • Check for known solutions - checks for known solutions related to Office 2007 crashes.

Running Microsoft Office Diagnostics from within PowerPoint 2007

  1. Click the Microsoft Office button.

  2. Click on the PowerPoint Options button to bring up the PowerPoint Options dialog box.

  3. Click on the Resources button in the left pane.

  4. Click on the Diagnose button in the right pane.

  5. Click Continue if this is the first time you have run the diagnostics. Otherwise, click on the Run Diagnostics Again button.

  6. Click Run Diagnostics.

Running Microsoft Office 2007 Diagnostics from the Start Menu

In the event that you can’t get PowerPoint to run due to errors in the program, the Diagnostics program can be started from your computer's Start Menu. To do this:

  1. Click on the Start button in Microsoft Windows.

  2. Hover your mouse over All Programs to open the Programs menu.

  3. Hover your mouse over Microsoft Office folder in the menu to open it.

  4. Hover your mouse over Microsoft Office Tools folder to open it.

  5. Click Microsoft Office Diagnostics to start the diagnostics program.

  6. Click Continue.

  7. Click Run Diagnostics.
