Three Methods to Hide Sound Icons on PowerPoint Slides

Many PowerPoint slide shows play with accompanying sounds or music that starts automatically, either for the whole slide show, or just when one slide is shown. However, you don't want to show the sound icon on the slide and you may have forgotten to select the option to hide the sound icon during the show.

Method One: Hide Sound Icon Using Effect Options

1. Click once on the sound icon on the slide to select it.
2. Click on the Animations tab of the ribbon.
3. In the Custom Animations task pane, on the right side of the screen, the sound file should be selected. Click the drop down arrow next to the sound file name.
4. Choose Effect Options... from the drop down list.
5. On the Sound Settings tab of the Play Sound dialog box, choose the option to Hide sound icon during slide show
6. Click OK.
7. Use the keyboard shortcut F5 to test the slide show and see that the sound starts, but the sound icon is not present on the slide.

Method Two -(Easier): Hide Sound Icon Using the Ribbon

1. Click once on the sound icon on the slide to select it. This activates the Sound Tools button, above the ribbon.
2. Click on the Sound Tools button.
3. Check the option for Hide During Show
4. Press the F5 key to test the slide show and see that the sound starts, but the sound icon is not present on the slide.

Method Three - (Easiest): Hide Sound Icon By Dragging

1. Click once on the sound icon on the slide to select it.
2. Drag the sound icon off the slide to the "scratch area" around the slide.
3. Press the F5 key to test the slide show and see that the sound starts, but the sound icon is not present on the slide.
