A question from a reader:

I received a PowerPoint 2010 slide show by email. I contains many beautiful pictures that I would like to save. Is there a way to save all of the pictures at once, rather than one at a time?

Step One - Rename the PowerPoint Show File

Note - File names are not case sensitive. For the purpose of this article I have used uppercase letters for the file name example, just for emphasis. You may use either uppercase or lowercase letters for file names.

1. Navigate to the folder containing the PowerPoint show file. In this example, I am using the file name MYSHOW.PPSX.
   (** Note that a file name for a PowerPoint show - (the finished product) uses the file extension .PPSX while a PowerPoint presentation - (the working file) uses the file extension .PPTX)
2. Right click on the PowerPoint show file.
3. Choose Rename from the shortcut menu.
4. Click at the end of the file name and type .ZIP and then press the Enter key. A cautionary note will appear telling you that the file might become unstable. Click Yes to accept the change.
5. This will rename the file to MYSHOW.PPSX.ZIP

Step Two - Accessing the Pictures or Graphics Files

1. Double click on the newly named file -- MYSHOW.PPSX.ZIP
2. Double click on the ppt folder.
3. Double click on the media folder. You will see a list of all the picture files, as well as any sound files that were contained in the PowerPoint show.
4. Right click on the picture file you want and choose Copy. (To select more than one file at a time to copy, follow the steps in this article - Select More than One File at a Time.)
5. Navigate to the folder where you want to save a copy of these picture files. Once there, right click and choose Paste.
6. The newly acquired picture files are now ready for you to use in other presentations.

Step Three - Rename the .ZIP File Back to its Original File name

1. Right click on MYSHOW.PPSX.ZIP and choose Rename from the shortcut menu.
2. Delete .ZIP from the file name.
3. Once again you will be cautioned that the file may become unstable. Accept this change.
4. The file name is now back to MYSHOW.PPSX and can now be opened as before, as a PowerPoint show.
