When you first open a blank presentation in OpenOffice Impress, your screen should resemble the picture above. This is known as normal view in this presentation software.
Areas of the Screen
Section 1. This area of the screen is the Slides pane, showing thumbnail views of all the slides in the presentation.
Section 2. Each page of the working area of the presentation is called a slide. New presentations open with a blank slide in normal view ready for editing.
Section 3. The area to the right is the Task pane . Its contents vary depending on the current task. Initially, OpenOffice Impress recognizes that you are just starting this presentation and shows the different slide layouts available in the program.
Other tasks available in this section of the screen are for Master Pages, Custom Animation and Slide Transition. Custom Animation and Slide Transition task options are located at the bottom of the task pane. Simply click on the triangle pointing to the words Custom Animation to expand the task pane to see the options available for that feature. Likewise for Slide Transition and Master Pages.
