Macro

By , About.com Guide

Definition:

A macro is a series of commands to automate a repetitive task. The macro commands are recorded and assigned to a keystroke combination. This process is done by you, the user of the program.

Begin the macro creation process by deciding what task you would like to automate. Assign the macro a name and then the program records each keystroke needed to complete this task. Once the recording is finished the macro is saved for later use.

The macro may be played by using the menu in the program or by using the assigned keystrokes.

Examples: Mary used a macro in her PowerPoint presentation. The macro performed a repetitive task for her, so she did not have to do this task many times herself.
