Is PowerPoint the Right Tool to Present Highly Technical Information?

I had an interesting question asked during a recent interview. It was about using PowerPoint as a tool to present highly technical information. My opinion was wanted for a magazine article.

Once I thought about it (and it did not take long) I had an opinion for sure -- and a strong one at that. One of my pet peeves about using PowerPoint is that some presenters tend to think that PowerPoint is the presentation -- not the speaker. Can you imagine how you would feel if you were required to make a critical decision based on notes from a digital presentation? I know I would shudder at the prospect.
