The Virtual Amazing Race

Monday November 10, 2008
The teams in the television series The Amazing Race 13 are currently navigating the globe on another world tour. Join in the fun with The Virtual Amazing Race, an around the world Webquest. Students will search out information on some or all of the given topics, from how to identify poison ivy to Mexico's ancient civilizations to the world's most valuable coin. Once the data is collected it will be entered into a Web site created using PowerPoint.

This two part project is suitable for grades 5 to 12. Younger students can enter their data into the PowerPoint Web site template that I have already created for you to download. Older grades can build the Web site from scratch, using the five tutorials provided in the lesson plan. This covers another curriculum expectation for Web page design.

The subject matter is not limited to a Webquest. Grade 6 students at Regent Public School in Midland, Ontario had taken it a step further. They modified the PowerPoint template to suit their topic of Explorers. Check out their hard work. There are no limits to how teachers can use this project.

So -- on your marks -- get set -- off you go around the world on The Virtual Amazing Race.
